Train ticket delivery (or not)

Just sharing my story to see if anyone can help. I booked a number of train tickets for travel in the run up to New Year direct from a rail company website and paid a bit extra to have them delivered. Two weeks on, no sign of any of them. When I contacted the train company customer services, I was told they had been dispatched and that it was now Royal Mail's responsibility. They refused to reissue them again or email them to me, and I was unable to apply for a refund unless I got the tickets back which I suspect are lost in the post somewhere. I did have this problem once before a couple of years before with The Trainline who reprinted the tickets without any problem. Is it a mistake to go direct to the train company and has anyone else had this problem before, and have any other solution? I suspect my only remedy is to try writing to them. Needless to say, it will always be The Trainline for ticket bookings in future.
