Help Please
While we had an electrician at our house doing a job, we asked him to check the electric Aga extractor fan while it was not working. The electrician identified that there was not any voltage going to the extraction fan motor when the fan was switched on. The electrician also advised that the control panel cooling fan was not working and never has been since installation due to blades fouling! No other work other than diagnosis/advisory was undertaken.
The latter was confirmed by the visiting Aga Service Engineer who found that when the alloy control panel housing was secured in place the element “tails” were fouling the control panel cooling blades preventing them from turning, consequently allowing the circuit board and its components to overheat for the 22 months it has been installed.
The agent who we purchased from have replaced the entire electronics and software to this electric aga because its now a different supplier. They say I have voided the warranty through independent electrician diagnosis. However they have replaced the parts as a gesture of goodwill (parts free) and charged me a callout plus half hr labour.
I'm unhappy about this because I can find no reference on any of the information supplied with the Aga, their paperwork or the warranty book that refers to warranty being void through qualified electrician diagnosis. In fact on page 4 of the Aga warranty manual it only makes reference to Exclusions to “alterations to materials, spare parts and specific tools must be as recommended by Aga.
It is my interpretation and experience that individual replacement parts are often not compatable with new systems offered by different suppliers. And new software changes are brought about due to reliability issues, cost reduction or both!
We purchased this Aga with a 5 year warranty with the belief that it would go on for many more years after that (as indicated on Aga agent websites). However, product failures do occur hence why manufacturers offer a warranty. Nonetheless we believe the failed products were either of
a) poor installation - Aga Service Engineer who found that when the alloy control panel housing was secured in place the element “tails” were fouling the control panel cooling blades preventing them from turning, consequently allowing the circuit board and its components to overheat for the 22 months it has been installed
b)poor/unsatisfactory quality in reference to the durability aspect
and thus falls under the term “not fit for purpose” and therefore have every right to invoke my rights under the Sales of Goods Act.
I would appreciate your help and guidance on this please.
