Has anyone come across this rip off before. My daughter received her motor renewals from Marks & Spencer quoting a very acceptable premium as she has 14 years of claim free driving.Because she was recently made redundant she informed them about it ,thinking it might be a little cheaper because she isn't commuting. They then asked for an extra £10.00 for the remainder of this year and put her renewals up by £200.00.How ridiculous when she will be covering a fraction of the mileage she was when working.

Sadly this isn't a rip off in law terms. Insurance companies vary enormously in price as they each have their own niche markets which they target. Any price comparison site will show this well. Some specialise in young drivers, others previously banned drivers, learners, motability, over 50's etc....

Your daughter was absolutely right to inform them of her change in circumstances as that could otherwise have invalidated her insurance. Sadly it's one to take on the chin though, as the cost of cancelling and going with another insurer would be far greater than the extra premium. :)
