Warning about Tesco Opticians

I wanted to warn others about Tesco Opticians. I have had two bad experiences from their branch in Yeovil. I bought prescription sunglasses which I was pleased with until the the arm came off one side and was not repairable, apparently. This was within less than a year of purchase and the staff were very unhelpful and refused to replace them. I rather stupidly purchased a new pair as the deal seemed good with an extra pair free. One pair in black with dark grey tint and the same sunglasses in brown with a brown tint as advised. The brown tint turned out to be bright orange and totally useless. Tesco staff insisted this was the correct colour and not a mistake and again I felt cheated and mistreated because of their incompetence and lack of concern for their customer.

Debtors retreat
These glasses would be covered by SOGA, ie should be fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality and depending on the cost, should probably last until your next eye test.

Having said that, not sure I would want to get my glasses from a grocer :D

Thank you for your feedback and I wish I had said something sooner and had known about Soga. You are right though and I should have known better and I will stick to renowned opticians in future.

How long ago was this? You may still have a claim for the new glasses at least.
If truth be told, even going somewhere like specsavers can be hit and miss.

I had 6 appointments over 2 years, and was told the 5th time round not to bother wearing glasses for my -5.5 left eye and it was simply my brain only using my right eye - nothing to worry about.
6th time, prescription at -7.5 , turns out it's not my brain being lazy, I have in fact got an eye condition that slowly turns me blind. And it's in both eyes.
Good job specsavers! Nobody thought it was odd that my prescription was -1.25 2 years ago and has since gone to -2.5 , -3.75 , -5, -5.5 , -7.5 ....
-7.5 was recorded in July, so by now it's gonna be around -9 / -11

Now I've gotta see a private specialist to stop it getting worse. -15 = blind.. Lol

Oh dear I am so sorry to hear about your eyesight and the incompetence of Specsavers. It is unbelievable when they are supposed to be professionals. I hope the specialist can help you. Our eyeysight is such a precious thing.
Dare I say I also had some bad experiences with Specsavers in the past. Having been given an incorrect prescription and also the right lens put in left side and vice versa. As my prescription differs I couldn`t see a thing. Nothing as dangerous as you experienced though!
I have recently visited Boots Opticians and have found them excellent so far.
Wishing you all the best and thank you for replying to my message.

Don't forget though barb, specsavers aren't actually professionals. The opticians themselves have their degrees in opthalomogy or there abouts... However to simply work there, you simply need a gcse in English & maths.
And specsavers are a franchise! If you have the funds available, you can make your own branch.
Oh well. Thanks for your concern :)

Thank you for the heads up. It seems with the horse meat scandal Tesco are showing themselves up as a matchstick company.

I've been using an independent opticain for years - he's very reliable, and effective. The last glasses he sold me have lasted for over six years.

I bought a pair of vintage sunglasses from this shop and they were really fast and helpful. Love em, wear em all the time now.
